In 1953, the young artist Robert Rauschenberg proposed to Willem De Kooning, then one of the most renowned artists, a strange challenge: that de Kooning give him a drawing for Rauschenberg to delete. Erased de Kooning Drawing confirms in advance what became a large part of 20th century history, and shows how one of the most important tropes in 20th century art history is that of “destruction” or “deletion” or “erasure”.
RauKoon, the challenge launched by the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC) to the platform LINHAS CRUZADAS, proposes to invite emerging artists to choose an established author to establish a creative dialogue that will result in an exhibition, a concert, a conversation, an action for two.
The four initiatives will spread across the houses of the four Linhas Cruzada structures — Círculo Sede, Salão Brazil, Casa da Esquina and Oficina Municipal do Teatro — and will start next Saturday, September 6, at 6 p.m. with the inauguration of the Pedro Vaz and João Queiroz's exhibition.
LINHAS CRUZADAS is a project that unites four cultural associations in Coimbra — O Teatrão, Jazz ao Centro Clube (JACC), the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC) and Casa da Esquina, seeking to promote intersections between the activities of the four entities and, through articulation, cooperation and artistic exchange, to offer the Coimbra public a new space for the creation, experimentation and enjoyment of the arts.
