Gustavo Sumpta was born in Luanda, in 1970, and currently lives and works in Lisbon. A performance and visual artist, he taught Sculpture and Moving Image within the framework of the Sculpture Course at the Ar.Co art school, in Lisbon, from 2008 to 2012. Some of his solo exhibitions are: Sob o Signo do Pneu, Galeria Solar, Vila do Conde (2022); Luto, Galeria da Casa A. Molder, Lisbon (2021) and Die Zunge an den Gaumen nähen/Coser a língua ao céu-da-boca (2017), Rosalux – The Berlin based art space, Berlin. Several of his works were featured in group exhibitions, namely: Pontas Duplas (2021), Galeria Presença, Porto; Metal Sonante (2017), Anozero – Bienal de Coimbra; and Um homem quando mata um homem é um assassino, quando mata mil é um acto de Fé (2009), Gyumri Biennale, Gyumri Ethnographic Museum, Armenia. His performance art creations include: Herdeiro Universal (2022), DAMAS, Lisbon; D.O.C. – Denominação de Origem Controlada (2021),Festival Boca, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon; Sempre-em-Pé (2020), Festival Temps d’Images, Centro Cultural das Carpintarias de São Lázaro, Lisboand; and Levantar o Mundo (2017), Anozero – Bienal de Coimbra.
