Círculo Sede is a foundational space for the Biennial, representing its origins in the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra. The artists presented here work in a symbiotic relationship with the habitat, blurring the line between it and the exhibition space.

Anozero'26
Curated by Hans Ibelings and John Zeppetelli, with Daniel Madeira as assistant curator, Anozero’26 brings together an international group of artists, architects, and researchers, proposing a reflection on memory, reciprocity, coexistence, and ways of inhabiting shared space. Opened on 11 April, the biennial is on view across eight venues in the city until 5 July.
Taking as its conceptual point of departure the Proto-Indo-European root ghabh — the origin of the words “exhibition” and “habitat” — the exhibition explores the gestures of holding, giving, and receiving as fundamental conditions of both artistic practice and social life. The biennial thus positions itself as a space of encounter and relation between artworks, architecture, territory, and audiences.
Founded in 2015 by the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra, Coimbra City Council, and the University of Coimbra, Anozero has established itself as one of the most relevant contemporary art platforms in Portugal, critically activating heritage spaces and promoting dialogue between contemporary art, architecture, and the city.
